Converting femtoseconds to days and hours

The conversion of femtoseconds [fs] to days [d] and hours [h] can best be explained with an example. The starting point for the calculation example is 1.08 * 1020 femtoseconds [fs]. First, this value is divided by (1015 * 86,400) to calculate the number of decimal days. The result of this calculation is 1.25 decimal days. The number to the left of the decimal point is the integer part, which in this example is 1. This number can be taken unchanged and corresponds to the final result of 1 day [d]. The number to the right of the decimal point must still be converted into hours [h] by multiplying it by 24. 0.25 * 24 equals 6 hours [h]. In total, 1.08 * 1020 femtoseconds [fs] thus correspond to 1 day [d] and 6 hours [h].

Converting days and hours to femtoseconds

To convert days [d] and hours [h] to femtoseconds [fs], multiply the days [d] by 24 and add them to the hours [h]. The result of this calculation must then be multiplied by (1015 * 3,600).

  • Femtoseconds [fs] = (days [d] * 24 + hours [h]) * (1015 * 3,600)
