Length Converter

Conversion table for length units

A length is always specified with a value and the corresponding unit. A conversion table can be used to determine the value of the known length measurement in another unit. In most cases, a conversion table is used to determine the conversion value or calculation method for converting one unit of length into another. Due to their complexity, the tables are somewhat confusing, which makes them difficult for beginners to understand.

The following tool provides a solution to this problem, allowing conversion values and calculation methods to be queried directly from the table. Converting lengths in everyday life

There are many units of length that are rarely used in everyday life. These include, for example, parsec [pc], gigameter [Gm], and femtometer [fm]. It is also unlikely that a very small length measurement will be converted into light years [ly]. For this reason, it is not necessary to know all conversion values by heart. However, there are units of length that are used very frequently in everyday life. For example, meters [m], centimeters [cm], or feet [ft]. For these units of length, it can be very helpful to know the calculation method and the conversion value by heart.

Converting centimeters and meters

Centimeters [cm] and meters [m] belong to the metric system of units, which makes conversion very easy. A conversion factor of 100 is used for the calculation. The value in meters [m] multiplied by 100 gives the value in centimeters [cm]. Dividing the value in centimeters [cm] by 100 gives the value in meters [m].

• Centimeters [cm] = meters [m] * 100
• Meters [m] = centimeters [cm] ÷ 100

Convert feet to meters

Converting between feet [ft] and meters [m] is relatively simple, even though the two units of length belong to different systems of units. A rounded conversion value of 3.280839 is used for the calculation. The value in meters [m] multiplied by 3.280839 gives the value in feet [ft]. Dividing the value in feet [ft] by 3.280839 gives the value in meters [m].

• Meters [m] = feet [ft] ÷ 3.280839

Convert inches and centimeters

Inches [in] are often seen in everyday life on car rims, in mechanical engineering, and in electronic devices such as cell phones and televisions. The two units of length can be converted using a conversion factor of 2.54. The value in inches [in] multiplied by 2.54 gives the value in centimeters [cm]. Dividing the value in centimeters [cm] by 2.54 gives the value in inches [in].
