Speed Converter

Created by: tinycalcs.com/en
Number of supported units: 33
Last update: 2026

This speed converter features 33 speed units. This makes it possible to convert between Anglo-American, metric, nautical, astronomical, and other speed units as desired. All speed measurements are converted in real time and displayed with up to 20 decimal places, ensuring sufficient accuracy.

Two Steps to Your Result

Step 1: Select the required units

Our speed converter offers several input fields, each displaying the current unit symbol (for example, m/s, km/h or m/h). To change a unit, simply click on the unit symbol and select your preferred measurement from the dropdown menu.

Step 2: Enter your value

Once you have selected the desired units in the speed converter, simply enter the value you want to convert. You can input numbers into any of the available fields. As soon as you enter a value in one field, all other fields will automatically update and display the converted results. Both the entered value and the calculated results are automatically rounded to the predefined number of decimal places.

Add-on features

At the bottom of the speed converter, you will find two green buttons. The button on the right resets the converter to its default state. This restores all units, values, and decimal settings to their original configuration. The button on the left clears the current inputs by setting all values to zero, while keeping your selected units and decimal settings unchanged.

Conversion table for speed units

Speed is always specified with a value and the corresponding unit. A conversion table can be used to find out what value the known speed has in another unit. For example: How many meters per second [m/s] are in 1 kilometer per hour [km/h]?. In most cases, a conversion table is used to determine the conversion value or calculation method for converting one unit of speed into another. However, the tables are difficult for inexperienced users to understand because they are very extensive.

The following tool provides a solution to this problem, allowing conversion values and calculation methods to be queried directly from the conversion table. In total, the conversion table covers 33 speed units from the following areas: metric, US, British, maritime, aviation, and others.

Converting speeds in everyday life

There are units of speed that are rarely used in everyday life. These include, for example, inches per second [in/s] or yards per minute [yd/min]. It is also unlikely that a very small unit of speed will be converted into the speed of light [c]. For this reason, it is not necessary to know all conversion values by heart. However, there are units of speed that are used very frequently in everyday life. Examples include meters per second [m/s], kilometers per hour [km/h] and knots [kn]. For these units of speed, it can be very helpful to know the calculation method and the conversion value by heart.

Convert meters per second to kilometers per hour

Meters per second [m/s] and kilometers per hour [km/h] belong to the metric system of units, which makes conversion very easy. A conversion factor of 3.6 is used for the calculation. The value in meters per second [m/s] multiplied by 3.6 gives the value in kilometers per hour [km/h]. Dividing the value in kilometers per hour [km/h] by 3.6 gives the value in meters per second [m/s].

  • Kilometers per hour [km/h] = meters per second [m/s] * 3.6
  • Meters per second [m/s] = kilometers per hour [km/h] ÷ 3.6

Convert kilometers per hour to miles per hour

Converting between kilometers per hour [km/h] and miles per hour [mi/h] is relatively simple, even though the two units of speed belong to different systems of units. A rounded conversion value of 1.6093 is used for the calculation. The value in miles per hour [mi/h] multiplied by 1.6093 gives the value in kilometers per hour [km/h]. Dividing the value in kilometers per hour [km/h] by 1.6093 gives the value in miles per hour [mi/h].

  • Kilometers per hour [km/h] = Miles per hour [mi/h] * 1.6093
  • Miles per hour [mi/h] = Kilometers per hour [km/h] ÷ 1.6093

Convert kilometers per hour and knots

A conversion factor of 1.852 is used to convert between knots [kn] and kilometers per hour [km/h]. The value in knots [kn] multiplied by 1.852 gives the value in kilometers per hour [km/h]. Dividing the value in kilometers per hour [km/h] by 1.852 gives the value in knots [kn].

  • Kilometers per hour [km/h] = knots [kn] * 1.852
  • Knots [kn] = kilometers per hour [km/h] ÷ 1.852

Convert meters per second and knots

Meters per second [m/s] and knots [kn] are converted using a rounded conversion value of 1.9438. The value in meters per second [m/s] multiplied by 1.9438 gives the value in knots [kn]. Dividing the value in knots [kn] by 1.9438 gives the value in meters per second [m/s].

  • Knots [kn] = meters per second [m/s] * 1.9438
  • Meters per second [m/s] = knots [kn] ÷ 1.9438
